Forbidden Planet: Purple's Shooting Stars

19th March 2003

Forbidden Planet, 'The world's LARGEST and BEST-KNOWN science fiction, fantasy, comic and cult film and TV entertainment retailer' has once again come up trumps! They have very kindly donated five of Terry Pratchett's novels to be flogged as raffle prizes for the Purple Theatre Company's charity raffle, during the forthcoming production of 'Interesting Times'.

The raffle, which takes place on the last night of the show, aims to donate all funds raised to the Shooting Star Trust, the Mayor of Hillindon's charity, which provides hospices for children with terminal illness. This will be the second time the renowned chain of shops has provided prizes for Purple productions, previously donating signed copies of Pratchett books for the super-successful 'Lords and Ladies'.

In addition to the Pratchett books there will be a number of fantastic prizes courtesy of The Body Shop, Octagon Books, The Entertainer Toy Shop and Boville-Wright Art Shop. The Purple Theatre Company offers its sincerest thanks to these companies for their support and generosity.

For the past five years the Purple have entertained the people of Uxbridge, Ruislip and the surrounding areas, staging productions at the Compass Theatre in Ickenham. They work hard, on a purely voluntary basis, to produce the most professional plays and musical shows possible, and in addition to this do their best to raise money for charity.

The group, which has staged over eight productions in the five years since its creation, has raised money for a number of charitable organisations with each show, including the Hammersmith Hospital Kidney Patients Association, Tiny Smiles and Purple Dreams, among others.

The Purple Theatre Company is a resident dramatics group of the Compass Theatre in Ickenham, and has so far staged adaptations of Terry Pratchett's Masquerade, Carpe Jugulum and Lords and Ladies, as well as having previously presented Mort and Men At Arms as Brunel Alumni Drama in Uxbridge.

The group are now rehearsing for their sixth Pratchett challenge 'Interesting Times', which will be on at the Compass Theatre from 30 April until 3 May 2003. For more information about the forthcoming production please call 07050 605 081, or visit the website at www.purpletheatre.org.uk
